'Tis the Movie Season

I should be cleaning right now. So it is the perfect time for a new blog entry! And to add insult to injury, I think I'll write about a particularly inane topic. Ever since the arrival of Mr. Sinjin, I have seen very few movies. The past fall, we've watched a couple because we now have regular baby-sitting. When it's a sunk cost due to the class schedule, you stop fretting about how insanely expensive it is to go see a movie with your spouse. I also can work it to go see movies on my own during the day, but nothing really was calling all that strongly to me. But the Oscar bait for November and December seem particularly alluring to me this year. Of course, not everything that I want to see is Oscar bait or have pretensions beyond guilty pleasure. But in no particular order, I want to see:

Harry Potter
Burlesque
The King's Speech
The Kids are All Right (I think this is out on video already)
The Swan
Rabbit Hole
Somewhere
Blue Valentine
Country Strong
Love and Other Drugs

Most of these are being released between now and January. And I've got final exams throughout December. But I've been known to have periods of high movie consumption. The summer before Sinjin was born, the Other J and I pretty much saw every summer blockbuster that came out, including Hell Boy: The Golden Army. We knew that a newborn meant no movies for a while and by the time we were through with Hell Boy, we were ready to take a long break. I'm sure I'll catch some of the list on DVD, but it would be fun if I actually cared about the Oscars this year.

i LOL'ed at the Hell Boy reference. Before Abi was born I binged on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for similar reasons. I am so out of the movie loop I only recognized only 3 titles on your must-see list. You know those people who always brag about how they have a weekly date night AND me-time AND go jogging AND have two toddlers? Yeah, those people all have close relatives that live in town.

Oh, Erin and Julie, how I envy those people.

A woman at church has both her mother AND her grandmother in town. I have mulled this fact over at least a hundred times since I learned it in a chance encounter a year ago.
